One of things I love about my nonprofit is that I get to know and work with some really wonderful people. I’m directing a new leadership development program at my organization, and I’m working with Hope Gleicher, formerly Executive Director of the Trellis Fund, now an independent consultant. Hope has been one of my informal mentors since I came to the organization. Yesterday, she sent me an email inviting me to the 2008 Foremother Awards Luncheon. She had bought two tickets and asked me to be her guest. So many inspiring and influential female leaders will be in attendance, and I was so excited that she invited me! I would love to attend these kinds of galas and functions, but the ticket prices are usually too steep for an emerging leader like me. So the reason I wanted to highlight Hope is that she models what current leaders can do for the next generation. Provide access to key networks that will benefit your less-seasoned colleagues. A simple invite to an event or meeting with someone they should know is often just the key to open the door to empower the next generation to lead. Introductions are everything, and we have the skills to do the rest.
I heart Hope Gleicher for helping to nurture my leadership. Is there anyone in your professional life that is looking out for you?
Don’t forget to tune in tonight 6-7pm EST for a juicy conversation with Robert Egger, President and founder of DC Central Kitchen, about the future of nonprofit leadership. We’re going to have a funky good time on my live podcast show on BlogTalkRadio. Hope you can join us!
